Chapter 2
The Kingdom’s Miscalculation
Part 8

That night. Qua-Toyne Principality. Government Senate Meeting.

At the request of the Minister of Defense, an emergency Senate meeting was held under the authority of Prime Minister Kanata.
Of course, the agenda will be about the defensive war against the Kingdom of Louria.
The members of the Government Meeting had a great interest in the war report on the current state of the battle for the Fortress City Ejei, that will be brought up during the meeting. If by some chance, the city were to fall, the enemy would be able to secure an invasion route to the capital city, and the Qua-Toyne Principality would be cornered into a hopeless battle.
The meeting hall already had its seats fully occupied.
The meeting will be opened in two minutes.
The Eastern Noble, Milcan, started a conversation with his peer from the Central Nobility, Nausi, who sat beside him.

Nausi-dono, have you heard any information about how the war? Although it will be announced soon, I can’t help but worry about…… the survival of our country. If it’s Nausi-dono, who has deep connections with the military, then I believe you would have an accurate grasp on the war’s situation……
Milcan-dono, rather than delivered from my own mouth, I think it will be better if you wait for the official announcement from the Military. I think it will be more believable that way.
What do you mean?
The information that I received is too unbelievable…… After compiling the information together, it seems that we won, but…… Even the Military top brass are in utter chaos because of it.
For the Military top brass to be in utter chaos, the battle should be an extremely fierce fight with heavy casualties……
No, they are not in chaos because of the casualties and the battle itself could be said to be extremely miraculous……
Oh ho! So you mean, before the overwhelming large enemy army, a fantastic strategy together with luck had granted us a great battle result?
It can’t be called as mere luck. And the casualties on our side is……

Just when Nausi began to rack his brains on how to explain the situation to Milcan, the General Staff of every branch of the Principality military entered the room and took their seats.
Then the representative of the General Staff of the Army took the podium and started reporting the war situation while wiping his sweat.

Sorry to keep you waiting. Now then, I will give a report on the battle, which took place in the plains, about 5 kilometers west of the Fortress City Ejei.

The Army Staff took a breath before reading the rest of the report.

As you have already known, a couple of days ago, about 20,000 soldiers from the Kingdom of Louria had approached about 5 kilometers west from Ejei and constructed an encampment. They were less than the number of our forces stationed in the Fortress City Ejei, so it was believed they were perhaps a vanguard force.

Many members already knew about this.

However, they had repeatedly sent several cavalrymen alternately both on day and night to commence reconnaissance in force by approaching the wall. Because of this, our troops become mentally fatigued. Then, today, early morning, there was a request from the Japanese Army for permission to launch a support attack, and General Nou from the Western Region Division permitted this based on local situation consideration.

Since he would soon approach the core of the report, sweat began to drip down from the Staff’s forehead.

Japan dispatched the flying machine called a helicopter and issued a warning to Louria Kingdom’s vanguard force: Begin to dismantle your encampment within two hours and withdraw immediately.
A warning!? Why would they need to warn those inhuman soldiers who had burned our country's city and slaughtered our citizens!! If they give a warning, won’t the enemy will be prepared to counter them!?
Why does Japan take actions to reduce the enemy casualties that will benefit the enemy‼

The meeting hall erupted in uproars and jeers. The Staff had already predicted that this would happen.

ORDER‼! ORDER!! There will be time for questions at the end, so for now, please listen to the battle report!

With the Chairman’s order, the ruckus died down. The Staff resumed the report.

Even after over two hours, Lourian soldiers showed no signs of withdrawing. On the contrary, they began to form the lines and prepare for battle. After that…… The events that happened were slightly unbelievable. Even so, this had been witnessed not only by the military personnel but also by the local citizen, and it had been cross-checked numerous times with the garrisoned soldiers……

The Staff slowly read the content, word by word.

Due to the attacks from the Japanese Army, believed to be intense explosion magic projections, in less than 10 minutes, about 20,000 enemy soldiers were annihilated. The locals reported it as, There were rapid explosions over a large area which effortlessly annihilated Louria Kingdom’s soldiers, the Wizard reported it as, The explosions are thought to be a high powered explosion magic, but even if the entire 6,000 soldiers from the Japanese Army, who participated in the support attack, are at the Archwizard level, they wouldn’t be able to create explosion on this level of power and range. Furthermore, there had been no casualties on our army and citizen. Neither were there for the Japanese army. The casualties for Louria Kingdom’s Army are estimated to be about 20,000 men and 2,200 horses.

The meeting hall fell silent.

That is the summary of the Battle of Fortress City Ejei.

A senate member, who was the first to jeer not too long ago, raised his hand.

…… I have a question.
Yes?
What sort of attack did the Japanese Army conduct?
The details are unknown. There is no one in our army who saw how to attack was performed.
Then, no one saw how the Japanese used high-power explosion magic?
Yes, Japan submitted a report saying that We performed the attack from our base.』」

Several people revealed their anger on their face. They were under the impression that during the debriefing of a battle that would decide the survival of their country, they had just had been forced to listen to fabricated information.

Nonsense! The Japanese base was 10 km away from the attack location! This kind of magic has only been found in the fairy tale of the Ancient Magic Empire!

Waiting until they had finished speaking, Prime Minister Kanata raised his hand and calmed the meeting hall.

I want you to take a look at the document on hand.

High-quality papers cheaply imported from Japan were distributed to Senate members.

(Louria…… Capital City Suppression Plan!?)

Japan had proposed to arrest the Lourian King for the war crime of mass murder by conducting an assault at Louria’s Capital City using iron dragons launched from our country. After all, Japan considers the enemy as armed insurgents, and so they want to arrest the Lourian King who can be thought as the insurgent’s leader. In addition, Japan wanted to deploy iron dragons and ground forces to counterattack the Kingdom of Louria’s Qua-Toyne Subjugation Army that had been deployed between Ejei and Gim and any enemy units that had advanced from the western border of Gim towards our eastern territory. Since the enemy main force is based at Gim, when they succeeded in repulsing them, then they plan to recapture it together with our army.

At this unexpected agenda leap, even the most verbose senate members, withheld their protests. Although they wanted to repudiate Japan, it was a fact that the Qua-Toyne Principality Armed Force couldn’t win the war by itself.
‘If that happens and the war of aggression can be expected to cool down, then’ the senate members began to calculate profit and loss, and calmed down after thinking what choice would bring them the best profitable outcome.

This proposal isn’t so bad, right? Everything is beneficial for our side.
But, an intrusion of a ground force from another country is-……
However, at this rate, our country will perish…… I think that this time we have no choice but to rely on Japan, don’t we?
The enemy’s capital city…… I don’t see how this will work……
However, if this goes well, the war will end…… There will be no problems since Japan is fighting on its own.

The Senate unanimously voted to permit the Japanese Armed Force to wage war on the land, on the sea, and in the skies; all theatres of combat within Qua-Toynese and Lourian territory.

The next day. Kingdom of Louria’s Eastern Subjugation Army, Gim Headquarters.

Are we still unable to contact with the Eastern Lords Division?

Vice Commander Adem was shouting at the army communication corps.

The wizard has transmitted a manacom, but there is no reply.

Since yesterday, there had been no contact from the Eastern Lords Division.
Although they were just a Vanguard Force, they were still large with 20,000 soldiers that could match any Qua-Toyne Principality Army. It was unthinkable that they could be annihilated before sending any form of communication.
Adem had already dispatched 12 Wyverns towards Ejei as air support and as recon units.

What about the Wyvern Scouts?
They will soon reach the airspace where contact with the Eastern Lords Division was lost.
